Sitter Session Photography
One of my favourite stages to photograph during a baby’s first year is the sitter milestone. This stage usually happens around 6–9 months, when babies are sitting up on their own but aren’t quite crawling yet. It’s the perfect window to capture those big smiles, chubby cheeks, and curious personalities.
At my Brantford photography studio, sitter sessions are simple, relaxed, and focused entirely on your baby.
What is a Sitter Session?
A sitter session is a milestone baby photo session designed for babies who can sit up independently but aren’t crawling yet. At this age, babies are usually full of expression and love interacting with the camera, which makes for some really sweet portraits.
These sessions are shorter than a newborn session and don’t require the same level of preparation. Babies are generally happiest when they’ve had a good nap and a full tummy before arriving.
When Should You Book a Sitter Session?
Most parents book their sitter session when their baby is between 6 and 9 months old. This stage doesn’t last long, so if you’re hoping to capture it, it’s best to book once your baby is starting to sit steadily on their own.
Many families choose to photograph three milestones in the first year:
- Newborn session
- Sitter session (around 6–9 months)
- First birthday or cake smash session
Together, these sessions tell the story of your baby’s first year.
What to Expect at Your Baby’s Session
My sitter sessions take place in my Brantford, Ontario photography studio and are designed to keep things easy for both baby and parents.
During the session we typically capture:
- Simple baby portraits

- A few close-up details
I keep the setups clean and timeless so the focus stays on your baby.
What Should Baby Wear?
Simple outfits photograph best. Neutral colours, soft textures, and minimal patterns work beautifully for milestone portraits.
Many parents bring:
- A simple romper
- A neutral outfit
- A special outfit they love
I also have a small selection of baby outfits and props available in the studio if needed.
